JAZZGROOVE IN AUGUST
4th August

10pm Declan Kelly and the Rising Sun
Winston Stephenson - bass
Jonathan Pease - guitar
Robbie Woolf - hammond organ
Grant Naylor - percussion
Declan Kelly - drums and vocals
The ocean has always been a great metaphor for life and the trials we encounter. Kelly has woven this thread throughout his album "Adrift", with his love of reggae roots and other relative feels as the great ship to carry the songs. Tonight's music will hint at the sense of being out on the big blue and the perils we face along the way.
8:30pm Casey Golden Trio
Casey Golden - piano
Brendan Clark - bass
Rob Turner - drums
Casey is the latest in a line of fine Australian jazz musicians. This being the trio's Jazzgroove debut, they're sure to deliver their full measure of optimism, irresponsibility and youthful vigor while they swing the night away.

One of the many projects Jess devotes her considerable energy to, the Septet forms a compositional bookend, the music covering everything from minimalist classical techniques to good old rock 'n' roll. Planning to head into the studio later in the year, Jess and her stellar band are sure to be on top of their game.
18th August

10pm Tina Harrod Band
Tina Harrod - vocals
Matt McMahon - piano
Jonathan Zwartz - bass
Hamish Stuart - drums
Always a striking and personal singer, Tina has created a seamless blend of the related worlds of jazz, funk and soul. Her songs, some co-written by Jonathan Zwartz, himself a superlative bassist, are as great as her voice. An awesome and luxurious experience.
8:30pm Aunty Richard
Joel Woolf - sax
Franco Raggatt - guitar
Trent Prees - electric bass
Tim Firth - drums

"Aunty Richard displayed a powerful sense of drama and dynamics and they veered between cruisy, blues-drenched grooves and hard-hitting grunge rock."
Jessica Nicholas, The Age, May 2009
25th August
Fugawe Jam Session
James Muller - guitar
Phil Stack - bass
Tim Firth - drums
Our first bassist led jam, we expect great things from Mr. Stack and Co. Jazz Standards will naturally be there, but what of his great experience as a pop and rock musician of some note? How will this be expressed in the language of jam? Ladies, bring panties to throw.

Mike Nock
Mike has had an extraordinary career, traveling the world playing with greats of the international jazz scene, writing for everything from string orchestra to solo piano, and still busy with his trio and the BigSmallBand. As a gruff but witty professor, his mentorship of musicians young and old has made him an oft quoted legend on the Sydney scene. He gladly supports Mark, alone at the piano this time.
